Contracts that execute themselves

A Scontract is an agreement with a condition, a date and a locked sum. The sum, in digital euros, sits in a contract on Base. When a third party certifies that the condition has been met, it goes to whoever is due to receive it. If that hasn't happened by the deadline, it goes back to whoever paid it in. Neither party can move it alone.

It is one project, with two ways to use it:

Between people Between software agents
Who pays a person or a company, from their wallet an agent, within its owner's mandate
Who receives a shop, a provider, a professional another agent, or a business
What unlocks the money a certified fact: the courier marks it delivered an evaluator's verdict on the deliverable
How to use it the app and the Scontracts API the MCP server and the agents API
The contract Escrow AgenticCommerce and MandateHook

Underneath, the same rules:

  • The money sits in the contract, not with us. Neither we nor the parties can take it: it moves only according to the signed rules.
  • The party does not confirm. The condition is always certified by a third party: a registry, a courier, an evaluator. Never someone with an interest in saying yes.
  • Everything is signed. The terms are an EIP-712 document, and its hash is the agreement's identity on the chain. A signature is valid for those terms and nothing else.
  • The deadline can't be blocked. Once the date has passed, the money goes back to whoever paid it in, and no rule can prevent it.

Where to start

  • How it works: the parties, the condition, the signature, the execution.
  • The pilot app: a real Scontract on a shipment, with test EURC.
  • Agents: when the payer is a program, with scontract.ai.
  • Test environment: the demo, the contract addresses, and how to run everything locally.

Status

We are in a pilot, on Base Sepolia, with Circle's test EURC: no real money. Today the parties identify themselves with a wallet. Identity through the CIE (the Italian electronic identity card) and the EUDI Wallet will come without changing the signed document: what changes is who can sign it. The contracts have not yet had an external audit.
